Disclaimer…I AM A FOODIE! It is from a lifetime of food and beverage/restaurant management. I look at cost, quality of service, presentation and above all…the taste. The volume of food is not always a considered factor. Choices are also very important for me and a menu that provides a low carb and/or ketogenic choices are a must. See my KETO WHAT TO EXPECT blog for more information on this. If you have ever gone into a restaurant with a menu that has deep fried, pasta and bread heavy entrees…do not be concerned. This is a learning process. I will let you know how to find and order the right foods anywhere, including fast food restaurants. YOU can request information with a PM anytime.

Recent restaurants include, in no specific order:

A.R. French’s Pizzeria . Located in Longleaf, New Port Richey.  Their menu has special items that cater to a low carb/keto friendly meal.

BurgerFi in Mitchel Ranch Plaza….love the “green style” Wednesday special for $5. (no bun) and the military discount! Best burger.

Christo’s Family Restaurant – Will also do green style -can order soups ahead- Great place.

Leaning Tower of Pizza. This is where I can get broiled cod, spinach (best I’ve had) and the absolute crisp-cold-mixed salad!

The Inn on the Gulf, in Hudson. The scallops are the biggest I’ve ever seen on a menu. Portions are huge. I suggest going around 3 pm (make a reservation) and take advantage of the Early Bird menu. More than you can eat. Outstanding seafood!  This is a great find.

The Olive Garden.…..wow, I was surprised there was menu items for low carb and Keto!!!!

Sip on Grand

In New Port Richey….Great for a little entertainment and a Charcuterie Board. I had to ask for no breads and crackers. Although they look GREAT!

The Westside Deli, They will make you just about anything, if you ask for it!!!

CLOSED Lulu’s Oyster Bar and Tap, Indian Rocks Beach. If you like oysters, grouper cheeks, shrimp, lobster, etc, craft burgers, craft beer at super reasonable prices…Virginia Oysters $14/dz and it WAS $7/dz on Thursdays. BEST oysters anywhere!     OH NO! My favorite place has CLOSED FOREVER! 

Tonbo Hibachi Grille  New Port Richey. Ask your grill chef for your meats (or seafood) and vegetables without sauce. He will do your order first and as I elected…with butter. Great with their Miso soup. Early bird before 2:30.

 

 

Ordering Keto Friendly Foods at your nearby Fast Food Restaurants

McDonald’s

Quarter Pounder with Cheese
Cal: 250
Fat: 16 g
Carb: 6 g
Protein: 19 g

  • Any burger, minus bun, no ketchup
  • Angus, Mac or Grilled Chicken wraps… just unwrap and eat with fork, no ketchup
  • Salads with the grilled chicken instead of crispy, any dressing but the balsamic, don’t eat the grape tomatoes. Don’t order the premium Asian or Southwest styles as they have extra crunchy carb things added.
  • Sausage biscuit without the biscuit

Chick-fil-A……Grilled chicken without bun…..?? Wish they were better educated in this area.

The Unwich….great sandwich

Ditch the bread and order any sandwich with a lettuce wrap.

Burger King

Ask for any of the burgers/cheddar cheese without the bun. Put in a bowl on top of the lettuce, tomato, onion. No sauce or ketchup.

*Five Guys  (overpriced)

Very accommodating. Double Burger, lettuce wrapped with choice of toppings. If you get a bacon cheeseburger you can get free extra bacon and cheese.

*Taco Bell

Ask for the Naked Egg Taco, without the potatoes and change the nacho cheese to Extra Cheddar, with bacon or sausage. Easy request when ordering.

**Arby’s

Request any of their sandwiches be served in a bowl with shredded lettuce or ask for the lettuce leaves on the side. Avoid the sweet high carb/sugar sauces. You can usually tell by the name. Order plain mustard, mayo.(or have your own pc’s in the car)

Here are the top 5 bunless, low carb sandwiches that offer the best blend of high calorie, but low carb:

  • Mount Italy – 780 calories and 9 net carbs
  • Triple Thick Bacon Half Pound Club Sandwich – 630 calories and 12 net carbs.
  • Half Pound French Dip & Swiss/Au Jus – 550 calories and 11 net carbs.
  • Half Pound Beef ‘n Cheddar – 530 calories and 10 net carbs.
  • Smoked Italian Porchetta Sandwich – 490 calories and 5 net carbs.

*Subway

Cold Cut Combo Chopped Salad. It comes with the Subway cold cut trio of meats (turkey, salami, bologna), sliced American cheese, and shredded lettuce.  For additional flavor, I added spinach, olives, and banana peppers.  Order the extra meat.

Chopped Tuna Salad with bacon, oil, and vinaigrette. Add spinach, Olives, peppers, mayo, and double tuna for $1.50 more. (cheese)

Any chopped salad, mix and match..turkey, bacon, ham, etc.

The flatbread egg, bacon and cheese…without the flatbread. The egg is folded like a taco. Order extra cheese and bacon. Side of mayo and hot sauce.
